La Grange Virus Rate Hike Still Less Than State's
Of the village's cases, the mortality rate is 2.7 percent, according to government numbers.
LA GRANGE, IL — La Grange saw its coronavirus cases rise by a little more than 5 percent in the last week, according to the Cook County Public Health Department.
Since early September, the village has been experiencing weekly hikes from 3 percent to 5 percent. Last week's rate of increase was considerably lower than the state's.
As of Sunday, La Grange, including unincorporated La Grange Highlands, had a total of 554 coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic, up 28 from a week before. Figures on those who are considered recovered are unavailable.

According to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office, the number of coronavirus-related deaths stood at 15, with the most recent ones Aug. 27 and Sept. 4. Before the latest deaths, no La Grange resident had died as a result of the coronavirus since June 9. All the local deaths have been those who were 68 or older, according to the medical examiner. The mortality rate among La Grange's cases amounts to 2.7 percent.
The Cook County Public Health Department's coronavirus numbers for La Grange also include unincorporated La Grange Highlands, which the agency did not make apparent until August. La Grange Patch has been citing the health department's numbers all along.

As of Sunday, La Grange, including La Grange Highlands, had 29 coronavirus cases per thousand people. The figure compares to 18.7 in La Grange Park, 21 in Western Springs, 23.3 in Clarendon Hills, 24.1 in DuPage County, 25 in Elmhurst, 25.9 in Hinsdale, 29.4 in suburban Cook County and 29.5 in Burr Ridge.

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 374,256, up 9 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 9,505 state residents.
Nationally, 8.6 million people have caught the virus, up 6 percent from the week before. A total of 224,221 people have died from the virus in the United States.
