La Grange Virus Situation Better Than State's
The rates of increase in coronavirus cases remain steady in the village since late September.
LA GRANGE, IL — The trend in coronavirus cases continues in La Grange: Since early September, the village has been seeing weekly increases from 3 percent to 5 percent. Last week's was 5 percent, according to the Cook County Public Health Department. La Grange's percentage increase was considerably lower than the state's.
As of Sunday, La Grange, including unincorporated La Grange Highlands, had a total of 526 coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic, up 19 from a week before. Figures on those who are considered recovered are unavailable.
According to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office, the number of coronavirus-related deaths stood at 15, with the most recent ones Aug. 27 and Sept. 4. Before the latest deaths, no La Grange resident had died as a result of the coronavirus since June 9. All the local deaths have been those who were 68 or older, according to the medical examiner.

The Cook County Public Health Department's coronavirus numbers for La Grange also include unincorporated La Grange Highlands, which the agency did not make apparent until August. La Grange Patch has been citing the health department's numbers all along.

As of Sunday, La Grange, including La Grange Highlands, had 27.5 coronavirus cases per thousand people. The figure compares to 17.7 in La Grange Park, 17.8 in Darien, 20.3 in Western Springs, 22.4 in DuPage County, 22.6 in Clarendon Hills, 23.5 in Elmhurst, 24.7 in Hinsdale, 27.4 in suburban Cook County and 28.6 in Burr Ridge.

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 344,048, up 8 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 9,214 state residents.
Nationally, 8.1 million people have caught the virus, up 5 percent from the week before. A total of 218,511 people have died from the virus in the United States.
