La Grange's Coronavirus Rate Higher Than Many Towns
Village sees a more than 20 percent increase in cases in the last week.
LA GRANGE, IL — La Grange continues to see big increases in its coronavirus case number. As of Sunday, the village had 122 cases, up from 100 a week earlier, according to the latest figures from the Cook County Public Health Department. It saw a nearly 50 percent increase the previous week.

Over the last week, suburban Cook County's cases jumped to 20,154, a 23 percent increase from the previous week's 16,356. The county's deaths increased by nearly a third to 833, up from 632 a week earlier. The county does not report deaths by municipality.

As of Sunday, La Grange had 7.9 cases per thousand, up from 6.5 a week earlier. La Grange's rate is higher than most nearby towns — 1.8 in Western Springs, 3.3 in Clarendon Hills, 3.5 in Elmhurst, 3.6 in La Grange Park, 3.8 in Darien, 5 in DuPage County and 9.2 in Hinsdale.

While La Grange has a hospital in its boundaries, that would not explain the village's caseload. Coronavirus patients are counted at the place of their residence, not at the hospital where they are admitted, according to the state.
As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 77,741, up 26 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 3,406 Illinois residents. Health authorities do not provide the number of deaths by municipality.
Nationally, nearly 1.4 million people have caught the virus, and 80,574 people have died from it.
