La Grange's Growth In Virus Cases Falls: County
Village's per capita rate of coronavirus cases higher than suburban Cook County's.
LA GRANGE, IL — The growth in coronavirus cases again went down last week in La Grange, according to the Cook County Public Health Department.
As of Sunday, La Grange, including La Grange Highlands, had seen 1,670 coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic, up by 74 from a week before, a 4.6 percent increase. The two previous weeks were 6.4 percent and 3.4 percent.
Since early October, La Grange's cases have increased by more than three times. The number of those who have recovered is unavailable.

According to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office, the local number of coronavirus-related deaths stayed the same at 27. The latest death was Jan. 9. All the local deaths have been those who were 62 or older, according to the medical examiner.
The mortality rate among La Grange cases is 1.6 percent. Of the entire population of La Grange and La Grange Highlands, 8.7 percent have been infected with the coronavirus. About a tenth of 1 percent of the population have died from the virus.

As of Sunday, La Grange, including La Grange Highlands, had 83.5 coronavirus cases per thousand people, worse than its surveyed neighbors. The figure compares to 56.2 in La Grange Park, 59.4 in Darien, 60.8 in Western Springs, 62.8 in Hinsdale, 68.2 in DuPage County, 70 in Elmhurst, 71 in Clarendon Hills and 75 in suburban Cook Count and 76.9 in Burr Ridge.

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,024,039, up 4.6 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 17,494 state residents.
Nationally, 21.9 million people have caught the virus, up 7.4 percent from the week before. A total of 367,652 people have died from the virus in the United States.
