La Grange's Increase In Virus Cases Slows: Health Agency

Village's total number of coronavirus cases nearly doubles since early October.

LA GRANGE, IL — As with nearby suburbs, La Grange's increase in coronavirus cases is slowing down, according to the Cook County Public Health Department. Last week's rise in cases amounted to 16 percent, lower than the previous week's 26 percent.

As of Sunday, La Grange, including La Grange Highlands, had 963 virus cases, up 132 from a week earlier. Before the last three weeks, La Grange had been seeing weekly increases of 3 percent to 5 percent for more than a month.

Since early October, La Grange's number of local cases has nearly doubled. The number of those who have recovered is unavailable.

According to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office, the number of coronavirus-related deaths in La Grange is 18, with the latest ones Nov. 9, Oct. 30, Oct. 17, Sept. 4 and Aug. 27. All the local deaths have been those who were 68 or older, according to the medical examiner.

As of Sunday, La Grange, including La Grange Highlands, had 50.4 coronavirus cases per thousand people. The figure compares to 32.9 in La Grange Park, 35.2 in Darien, 36.4 in Western Springs, 38 in Hinsdale, 38.6 in Clarendon Hills, 41.6 in Elmhurst and DuPage County, 46.3 in suburban Cook County and 47 in Burr Ridge.

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 573,6156, up 17.5 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 10,742 state residents.

Nationally, 10.8 million people have caught the virus, up 11 percent from the week before. A total of 244,810 people have died from the virus in the United States.
