La Grange's Rate Of New Virus Cases Up: County
About 8 percent of the local population have been infected with the coronavirus.
LA GRANGE, IL — Two weeks ago, La Grange saw its weekly rate of increase in new coronavirus cases at its lowest level since late October, according to Cook County numbers.
Last week, though, the rate nearly doubled.
As of Sunday, La Grange, including La Grange Highlands, had seen 1,596 coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic, up by 96 from a week before, a 6.4 percent increase. The week before that, the rate was 3.4 percent.

Since early October, La Grange's cases have increased by more than three times. The number of those who have recovered is unavailable.
According to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office, the local number of coronavirus-related deaths increased by one in the last week, now totaling 27. The latest death was Jan. 9. All the local deaths have been those who were 62 or older, according to the medical examiner.

The mortality rate among La Grange cases is 1.7 percent. Of the entire population of La Grange and La Grange Highlands, 8.4 percent have been infected with the coronavirus. About a tenth of 1 percent of the population have died from the virus.

As of Sunday, La Grange, including La Grange Highlands, had 83.5 coronavirus cases per thousand people, worse than its surveyed neighbors. The figure compares to 56.2 in La Grange Park, 59.4 in Darien, 60.8 in Western Springs, 62.8 in Hinsdale, 68.2 in DuPage County, 70 in Elmhurst, 71 Clarendon Hills, 75 in suburban Cook County and 76.9 in Burr Ridge.

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,024,039, up 4.6 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 17,494 state residents.
Nationally, 21.9 million people have caught the virus, up 7.4 percent from the week before. A total of 367,652 people have died from the virus in the United States.
