La Grange's Virus Rate Hikes Remain Low

The village sees one more death as the result of the coronavirus, county says.

LA GRANGE, IL — La Grange saw a 4 percent increase in cases in the last week, which was considerably less than the 12 percent hike statewide.

Since early September, the village has been experiencing weekly hikes from 3 to 5 percent.

As of Sunday, the village has seen 577 coronavirus cases since the pandemic's beginning, up 23 from a week before. Figures on those who are considered recovered are unavailable.

According to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office, the number of coronavirus-related deaths in La Grange increased by one, to 16, with the latest one on Friday. The most recent ones before that were Aug. 27 and Sept. 4. All the local deaths have been those who were 68 or older, according to the medical examiner.

The Cook County Public Health Department's coronavirus numbers for La Grange also include unincorporated La Grange Highlands, which the agency did not make apparent until August. La Grange Patch has been citing the health department's numbers all along.

As of Sunday, La Grange, including La Grange Highlands, had 29.1 coronavirus cases per thousand people. The figure compares to 19.5 in La Grange Park, 20.7 in Darien, 22.2 in Western Springs, 25 in Clarendon Hills, 26 in DuPage County, 26.4 in Elmhurst, 27 in Hinsdale, 31 in suburban Cook County and 31.8 in Burr Ridge.

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 417,280, up 12 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 9,792 state residents.

Nationally, 9.1 million people have caught the virus, up 6 percent from the week before. A total of 229,932 people have died from the virus in the United States.
