LaGrange School District 102 Student Awarded Scholarship By the Illinois Association for Gifted Children
Forest Road School Student Receives Carol Morreale Student Scholarship Award

Hadley Weaver Rivera, a sixth grade student at Forest Road School in LaGrange Park, is the recipient of the 2015 Carol Morreale Student Scholarship Award through the Illinois Association for Gifted Children (IAGC). Weaver Rivera will receive $1,000 in which she will use to buy a violin and pay for private violin lessons. She will also be recognized at the IAGC Convention in February.
Each year, IAGC selects a student from a pool of applicants in grades one through eight. To be considered for the award, students must demonstrate excellence in language arts and/or mathematics and submit two letters of recommendation, a sample of their work, and an essay on why they feel they qualify for the scholarship and how funds from the monetary award will be used.
LaGrange School District 102 Superintendent Kyle Schumacher, Ed.D. and Carol Morreale were friends and colleagues as they both worked together in Lake Forest School District 67.

“Carol was one of the strongest advocates for children that I have known,” said Schumacher. “I had the chance to meet with Hadley and tell her about Ms. Morreale and how much she loved the arts and would be thrilled that she was using this award to further her music education.”
The $1,000 award was established in memory of Carol Morreale, an educator, early IAGC member and tireless advocate for gifted children, and is funded through memorial donations.
