LGBA Presidents Unite as Clipper Ship Owner Sets Sail

Ten former La Grange Business Association leaders, including Clipper Ship Gallery owner Bert Jacobs, joined together for this photo during a farewell party for Jacobs, who was called a fixture in the community.

Western Springs resident Bert Jacobs has been running the Clipper Ship Gallery in La Grange since 1987, but he's now setting sails and closing the business.

Over that time there have been many presidents of the La Grange Business Association, Jacobs being one of them, and on Wednesday 10 gathered to wish him well.

Others were invited but couldn't attend, including Steve Pleimling, Mark Reich, Tom Fey and Honor Lorenzini.

"The village has seen lots of growth because of you, Bert, and all the past presidents," LGBA director Nancy Cummings said. 

Community members gathered at Palmer's to toast Jacobs and enjoy a cake that showed a print of one of the Charles Vickery paintings the Clipper Ship Gallery was so well known for. Jacobs cut the cake but avoided slicing into the print.

"That would be like sacrilege, wouldn't it?" he said, laughing.
