Local Female Chef is Leading in National Contest
The competition is benefiting the James Beard Foundation and one chef will win $25,000 and a two-page advertorial in Taste of Home Magazine.

Vegan chef, Valerie Vedral of Brookfield, has advanced in the top 20 finalists in her group for the “Favorite Chef” contest featuring Carla Hall, food personality from the Food Network. The competition is benefiting the James Beard Foundation and one chef will win $25,000 and a two-page advertorial in Taste of Home Magazine. Vedral is well known in the La Grange and Chicagoland area for her vegan cupcakes with artistic toppings.
Vedral gained momentum with her brand, “The Vulgar Vegan,” when she was awarded temporary retail space in The Berwyn Shops business incubator program in 2021. She is passionate about baking with high quality, plant-based ingredients. “I truly believe a plant-based vegan diet is the way to go for my own health, for the animals, and for planet Earth,” said Valerie about her motivation. She always includes humor in her marketing efforts. Her goal is to eventually open an upscale bakery and coffee shop in the local community.
