'Long Overdue': New Option For La Grange Cops

The program is available for those suffering from addictions and mental health issues.

LA GRANGE, IL – La Grange is teaming up with the Cook County Sheriff's Office to help the police deal with those suffering from addictions and mental health issues.

On Monday, the Village Board unanimously approved an agreement to have access to the sheriff's office's Treatment Response Team around the clock.

Through Zoom, officers can connect people under duress with clinicians from the sheriff's office's team.

The police department's costs are a tablet, a case and internet service, according to a memo.

"I'm filled with joy to read about this," Beth Augustine, a village trustee, said at the board's meeting. "This is long overdue."

Added Village President Mark Kuchler, "Sheriff (Tom) Dart did a good job with this."
