Meet a Loyola Doctor
Dr. Smit Vasaiwala, Assistant Professor of Cardiology, Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine, sees patients at the Center for Heart & Vascular Medicine and at Loyola Gottlieb Memorial Hospital. He specializes treating complex heart arrhythmias and implanting and managing defibrillator devices. As an electrophysiology (EP) physician, Dr. Vasaiwala is an expert in the electrical workings of the heart. “We take a very intensive approach to heart rhythm control with specialized medicine that only Eps are certified to prescribe, and with certain procedures, such as catheter ablations, that only we are trained to perform,” says Dr. Vasaiwala.

Loyola University Health System (LUHS) is a member of Trinity Health. Based in the western suburbs of Chicago, LUHS’s 61-acre main medical center campus in Maywood includes a 559-licensed-bed hospital that houses a Level 1 Trauma Center, a Burn Center and the Ronald McDonald® Children’s Hospital of Loyola University Medical Center.
