For the first time in 26 years, Lyons Township High School had individual students place at the Speech Team State Finals. Senior Claire Meyer, of LaGrange, took home a fourth place medal in Prose Reading, while senior Jack McDermott, of Western Springs, placed third in Special Occasion Speaking. Each student had to prevail in two preliminary rounds. McDermott had 18 other students from across the state to compete against and Meyer had 19 others. The team finished in 15th Place overall. The last time LT had a student compete at the State Finals was in 1988. The LT Speech Team is coached by Head Coach Kirsten Manthei and assistant coaches Christopher Bass, Courtney Neal and Ron Ben-Joseph.
