LT ringing of the bell tradition continues
Each spring, retiring teachers and first-year teachers climb up the North Campus clock tower to ring the century-old bell.

More than a decade ago, a tradition began at Lyons Township High School. Each spring, retiring teachers and first-year teachers climb up the North Campus clock tower to ring the century-old bell. New teachers take their turn ringing the bell, officially concluding their first year at LT. Then, retiring, veteran teachers, many of whom get misty eyed, ceremoniously ring the bell, signifying the close of their teaching career at LT. The combination of teachers beginning and ending their careers is a kin to “passing of the torch.”
New teachers ventured up the tower last Wednesday, while retiring teachers climbed the stairs to the bells last Thursday.
