LTHS Jazz Ensemble Traveling to New York City Competition
The ensemble will take on the best high school jazz bands in the country at the Essentially Ellington High School JazzBand Competition.

The Lyons Township High School Jazz Ensemble will make its way to New York City on May 7 to compete for a chance to perform with Grammy Award and Pulitzer Prize Winner Wynton Marsalis.
The ensemble will take on the best high school jazz bands in the country at the Essentially Ellington High School JazzBand Competition and Festival on May 7 to 9 at Lincoln Center’s home, Frederick P. Rose Hall.
Jazz at Lincoln Center named the LTHS Jazz Ensemble among the 15 finalists in February.

Each finalist band received an in-school workshop led by a professional musician before going to New York to perform before Wynton Marsalis and a panel of esteemed judges.
The bands will spend three days in New York in workshops, jam sessions, rehearsals and performances at Jazz at Lincoln Center. On May 9, the competition and festival will conclude with a concert and awards ceremony featuring the three top-placing bands and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Marsalis.
