LTHS Likely To Hike Taxes To Cap
An official cited inflation as the reason for the expected increase.

LA GRANGE, IL – Lyons Township High School hasn't set next year's property tax levy yet, but an official expects the school to raise it by the maximum allowed.
At this week's school board meeting, Brian Stachacz, the school's business services director, cited the inflation rate as the reason for a likely 5 percent rise in the levy.
The higher levy would bring in $3.5 million for the school, he said. The school has seen rising costs for busing and capital projects, among other things.

Many public bodies in Illinois are expected to raise their tax levies by 5 percent, which is the limit. They can do so when inflation rises to that level or higher.
Recently, Elmhurst School District 205 said it expected to raise its tax levy to the cap.

In addition to the 5 percent, Lyons Township High is expecting to raise its levy even further because of new construction within its boundaries. That could bring in another $1 million to the high school, Stachacz said.
The board is scheduled to vote on the tax levy in December.
