LA GRANGE, IL – Lyons Township High School announced Monday that it has struck a tentative five-year deal with its teachers union.

Now, the question is, will the school board let the public see the contract before members vote on it next Monday? Officials couldn't be immediately reached for comment.

On Wednesday and Thursday, members of the Lyons Township Education Association plan to vote on the agreement, according to a school news release.

The school said it planned to share more updates with residents in the coming days. It said nothing about the terms of the contract.

In the recent school board campaign, the union endorsed school board President Kari Dillon and member Jill Beda Daniels and newcomer Tim Albores. The trio won the three seats in the election.

The teachers union contract is no minor detail. The spending associated with such a document makes up a big chunk of any school district's budget.

The contract is expected to take effect July 1.

Across the state, districts follow a custom in which they keep teachers union contracts secret until after boards vote on them. This is despite the fact that most other agreements are made available beforehand.
