LTHS Student Dies In Countryside Crash: Cops

The youth collided with a car at a major intersection, police said.

COUNTRYSIDE, IL – A Lyons Township High School freshman died Sunday after he collided with a car while he was riding a bicycle, police said.

Julian Medina, 14, of Countryside, was listed as the victim.

It happened about 6:30 p.m. at La Grange Road and 55th Street, just south of La Grange, Police Chief Joseph Ford told Patch.

"While this is a tragic accident of a vehicle vs. a young boy on a bicycle, the driver of the vehicle stayed on the scene and has fully cooperated with the investigation," the chief said in an email.

He said a multi-agency team is conducting a reconstruction of the crash.

"The reconstruction will bring more details. There were plenty of witnesses," Ford said in an interview.

According to the police department, a candlelight vigil for Medina is planned for 7 p.m. Thursday at Ideal Elementary School Park, 9901 W. 58th St., in Countryside.

His obituary said Medina loved playing soccer and video games with his cousins. "He will be remembered for his kind and gentle manner," the obituary said.
