LTHS students take icy plunge for good cause

Forty-five Lyons Township High School students took an icy plunge and raised more than $14,000 to benefit Special Olympics of Illinois, which supports athletes with intellectual disabilities. Special Education ParaEducator Mark Yena, Special Education teachers Brian Wolf and Jackie Gay, teachers Dave Root and Katie Meyers, along with dozens of students took the Polar Plunge in Lake Michigan. Donations help provide athletes with intellectual disabilities the chance to participate in year-round sports training and competition. LT had the largest group in attendance, and for the second year in a row, LTHS was awarded the “Cool School Challenge Golden Bear Award” for being the high school with the most funds raised.
