LTHS Superintendent Announces Retirement
Lyons Township High School superintendent announced he will be retiring at the end of this school year.

LA GRANGE, IL — Lyons Township High School Superintendent Tim Kilrea, Ed.D, announced he will be retiring at the end of this school year.
Dr. Kilrea joined LT in 2007 as the director of Human Resources and has served as superintendent since 2009.
“My decision comes with mixed emotions. Personally, I look forward to spending more time with family. Professionally, I will miss the relationships I have built with the LT community. I have been fortunate to have a job I truly love,” Dr. Kilrea said.

Stepping down from his position as leader of the school district, Dr. Kilrea leaves LT proud of the district and all the progress made. “The students, teachers, staff and families of this district need to be applauded. I am so appreciative of being allowed to serve such a dedicated and hard-working LT community,” he said.
Board President Tom Cushing said, “Tim approached me in July about his intent to retire, and it is only with great reluctance that I accepted his retirement. He has skillfully led this district with professionalism, compassion and diligence. His decade-long tenure will have a long and lasting impression on this district. I commend him for his tireless efforts and effective leadership.”

“Over my almost 14-year tenure at LT, it has been my honor to work alongside Board members who give their time, talents and energy for the betterment of all students. I can retire knowing LT was, and always will be, in good hands. I am excited for the next chapter,” Kilrea added.
“The Board recognizes Tim as a person of the highest character and integrity. This Board of Education and previous boards with whom he has worked have enjoyed the privilege of collaborating with him on behalf of all students and our 11 communities,” Cushing added.
Kilrea began his 35-plus career in education as a history teacher. He served many roles in the Lincoln-Way District as assistant dean of students, department chair, coordinator of deans/director of student activities, and associate principal for Curriculum and Instruction. Kilrea also served as an assistant superintendent at Thornton Fractional Township High School District 215 and principal at Thornton Fractional South High School prior to joining LT.
Dr. Kilrea’s retirement takes effect June 30, 2021. The Board will enlist the assistance of a national search team to find a replacement.
