Man Killed By Freight Train In Riverside
The evidence indicates the death was an apparent suicide, police say.

RIVERSIDE, IL — A man died when he was struck by a freight train Sunday in Riverside, police said. The incident happened about 9:30 a.m. west of the Longcommon crossing closer to West Avenue.
The person was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a Riverside news release. All preliminary indications point to suicide, police said.
Police said they would not release the name of the man until they are able to make a positive identification, the release said.

"Preliminary investigative information revealed that the conductor of the train saw the person purposely step in front of the train onto the tracks, turn his back toward the train and put his arm out," Police Chief Tom Weitzel said in the news release. "The train was not able to be stopped."
All train traffic was stopped for about an hour.
