Midnight Crash Into LaGrange Road Tree Hospitalizes Three

All three occupants transported to Loyola Hospital in non-critical condition.

A black Chevrolet Tahoe slammed into a tree on a western lawn in the 800 block of N. LaGrange Road in La Grange Park at approximately 12:55 a.m. this morning, sending its three occupants to the hospital and shutting down the road for an hour while police and fire crews cleared the scene.

Division Chief Rick Ronovsky said that when safety personnel arrived, two of the occupants were trapped in the vehicle and the third was walking around in a daze. The fire crews freed the trapped persons and transported all three to Loyola Hospital, in Maywood, in non-critical condition.

A police officer told neighbors that, based on skidmarks left on the road, police believe the car was travelling south on LaGrange Road when it lost control, spun around, and crashed into a tree in a neighbor’s yard. He said it was not immediately clear if the driver was intoxicated at the time of the crash; heavy fog in the area had decreased visibility significantly.

Various debris and tree branches were scattered across at least two front yards, including that of Liz Wilk, who said she was awake and reading a mystery novel when she heard “a screeching and a loud crash.” The car tore up her lawn on its way to crashing into the tree. She said she saw the aftermath of the crash and immediately called 9-1-1.

Emergency crews from Western Springs and Brookfield assisted.
