A Mother's Words: Kelli's Legacy Has Impacted The World Around Us
Full text of Brenda O'Laughlin's victim impact statement about the loss of her daughter, Kelli Joy.
In the end it wasn’t about the defendant, but about a 14-year-old girl who never judged others by what they wore, always made room at the lunch table for the kid who was eating alone, and the joy she spread throughout her community and the world, her mother said.
“Kelli had touched so many more people in her short life than most adults do in their entire life,” Brenda O’Laughlin said at her daughter’s killer’s sentencing on Friday. “A child should be able to come home from school and walk into their home and be safe.”
