A Mouthful Of A Name For La Grange Hospital

The hospital chain requested the village approve signs reflecting the latest merger.

LA GRANGE, IL – Can you recite the name of the La Grange hospital? If not, you're probably far from alone.

The current name is UChicago Medicine Advent Health La Grange. Yep, that's a mouthful. It's certainly not the catchiest name.

It's just another sign of all the hospital mergers in the Chicago area. The hospital's last name wasn't so easy either – Amita Health Adventist Medical Center La Grange.

You'd probably get by just calling the local operation La Grange Hospital.

On Monday, the La Grange Village Board considered the hospital's proposal for new signs to reflect the new name. The proposal called for nearly 200 more square feet of signage.

Trustee Glenn Thompson said he had driven by and that it appeared the signs were already up, describing himself as shocked and none too happy.

However, a hospital contractor told the board he had been assured the new signs were temporary.

Village President Mark Kuchler said he also wondered about the signs.

"When you're driving by, it's hard to tell it's temporary, I can tell you that," he said.

Deputy Village Manager Charity Jones said she hadn't gone by the hospital to check the signs lately. She said she needed to determine whether anything was put up before the village's approval.

The board voted to approve the request for the new signs.

In January, UChicago Medicine gained a controlling interest in AdventHealth's Great Lakes Region, which includes hospitals in La Grange, Hinsdale, Glendale Heights and Bolingbrook.
