Nazareth Academy Student Athletes Make College Commitments

Three student athletes at Nazareth Academy made commitments to colleges.

LA GRANGE PARK, IL — In conjunction with the National Letter of Intent Signing Day, Nazareth Academy is announced that multiple student-athletes from the Class of 2018 have officially committed to continue their academic and athletic pursuits at the college level in Division 1 programs.

  • From the Girls Basketball program – Marissa Metz of Downers Grove will attend the University of Missouri, Kansas City. Metz has developed into one of the top players in the Chicago area, according to her coach, Edward Stritzel.

“My favorite quality of Marissa is her loyalty and dedication to the program. I’ve had the privilege of not only coaching her at Nazareth, but also Midwest Elite. Marissa’s future is secure at UMKC and her better days are still ahead.”

  • From the Girls Volleyball Program – Bridget Holly of La Grange will attend Northeastern University. The school said Holly’s volleyball success is a mirror of her classroom accomplishments. One of only two juniors to challenge themselves with AP Chemistry last year, Holly has also earned her way into National Honor Society, National English Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta. She is a consistent A Honor Roll student who’s also participated in student government and the SMILE service program, all this in addition to her role as captain of the varsity volleyball team. The Northeastern University Huskies are an NCAA Division I program.
  • From the Baseball Program – Derek Salata of Westchester will attend Illinois State University. Salata is a model of determination. Although he played varsity early in his high school career, he has had to battle through injuries and Tommy John surgery to earn his college spot.

“Derek is one of the hardest workers in our program,” Head Baseball Coach Lee Milano said in a release. “He is a team leader and I am confident Derek will have a successful college career.” The Illinois State University Redbirds are an NCAA Division I Baseball program.
