The tradition of impromptu summer concerts continues as a colorful painted piano makes its debut this week near the outdoor fountain by Village Hall, according to the La Grange Business Association.

An old, upright piano turned into a work of art will be placed there through August 31 for performances by local musicians and music lovers alike. It is available for all ages, abilities and types of music; everyone is encouraged to play.

In September, the vibrant piano will be moved outside of the Stone Avenue METRA station where it will stay through the West End Arts Festival, held near there September 7-8.

The piano not only sparks gathering in the community but calls attention to the vibrant art scene in La Grange and compliments the annual summer art exhibit organized by the La Grange Business Association, this year called, "Fun and Games." The exhibit features 30 hand-painted game tables displayed in front of local businesses. The art project is sponsored by the Park District of La Grange.

The piano was designed and painted by Matt Schiavone and the kids of The LeaderShop, an organization that strives to empower youths to become community-minded individuals through diverse programs that build confidence, knowledge and leadership. Schiavone is a team leader at The LeaderShop and enjoys creating art when he can.
