Church organ rebuild dedication concert First United Methodist Church Musician Houlihan

Join us Sunday, Oct. 22, at 3:00pm, at the First United Methodist Church of LaGrange (100 W. Cossitt), for a free concert designed to showcase the beauty and versatility of our newly rebuilt pipe organ! Guest organist Christopher Houlihan is widely acknowledged as one of the brightest stars in the new generation of organists. Praised by the media as “gifted” (New York Times), “dazzling” (Wall Street Journal) and “eloquent” (Los Angeles Times), his recent debuts have included the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., presented by the National Symphony Orchestra, and the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia, presented by the Philadelphia Orchestra. The Oct. 22 program will open with a brilliant Toccata by Leo Sowerby, and then move to a composition of Messiaen which explores the organ’s softer sounds. The final piece in the first portion of the program is Bach’s famous Passacaglia and Fugue in C minor. The second portion of the program begins with an audience hymn: “O for a Thousand Tongues to Sing” which is one of Charles Wesley’s most celebrated hymn texts! Music of Vierne rounds out the remainder of the program and includes his famous Carillon de Westminster! A reception in Fellowship Hall will follow the concert.A freewill offering will be received. Addition parking will be available in the playground area north of Cossitt School.
