Peace

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.  I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.  John 14:27

These words of Jesus were given to believers as a gift. God wants us to live in His peace, but in this world peace is a hard commodity to come by. When you listen to the news or read the paper, chaos and trouble are all around us. Crimes abound, wars and killing are front page news. This proves that sin is alive and flourishing. How then does one find peace?

People look for peace in interesting ways.  Some surround themselves with luxury to insulate them from the outside world.  Others find their peace through drugs and alcohol which can lead to self-destruction, rather than peace. What does God mean by peace?

Our peace comes through Christ because he has won eternal life for us through His death and resurrection. He gives us His peace of mind and heart. We can bring our earthly troubles to God in prayer.  He will strengthen us and answer our prayers. This gives believers peace.  The rest of the world does not understand the power of prayer, and is therefore deprived of this source of peace.

Share the source of your peace with others.  When they are troubled, ask them how you can pray with them. When we do these things, we are helping people Meet Jesus, Experience the support of a church, and we are opening the doors to help them Live as His disciples.
