RIVERSIDE, IL — A pedestrian was struck and killed by a train in Riverside on Wednesday afternoon. Police said they responded just west of the Longcommon Crossing around 2:50 p.m.
The pedestrian was an adult male, but further identification has not been made, police said. Cook County Medical Examiner's Office declared the man dead at the scene, and he was taken to the office for identification.
Police said they found a backpack near the incident, which belongs to the victim, but there was no identification. Initial investigation suggests that the pedestrian purposely stepped out in front of the train, according to police.
