Have you ever wondered what the chemicals discharged from industrial factories, power plants, and farms are doing to the health of you or your loved ones? Sandra Steingraber, who grew up in Pekin, Illinois, has more than just wondered about the subject. While she was in college, Steingraber was diagnosed with bladder cancer and, at the same time, her mother had breast cancer. After earning a doctorate in biology, Steingraber used her experience, knowledge, and resources to draw a line between cancer rates and the exposure to toxins, beginning with toxins present in her home town.
Steingraber’s efforts are the subject of an illuminating documentary entitled “Living Downstream.” You have the unique opportunity to view the documentary this Thursday, November 14th at 7pm at the Wellness House, 131 N County Line Rd in Hinsdale. The program is hosted jointly by Go Green La Grange and Wellness House and an open forum for discussion will follow. The program is free, but registration is requested.
Come and examine the connection between pollution and cancer and learn what we can do to promote a healthy environment.
