McCOOK, IL - The "Quarry Crusher Run," a running series created by the Vulcan Materials Company will make its Chicagoland debut this weekend at the Vulcan Materials quarry in near west suburban McCook. It begins at 8 a.m. on Sunday, June 23 and is open to anyone 16 years old or older.

The run/walk, which offers both 3.2 mile and 5.6 mile distances, will take participants down through the McCook quarry past towering limestone rock features, then back up to the finish line. Along the way runners and walkers will experience a 300-foot descent and inclines and declines reaching 11 percent.

The race is part of the Quarry Crusher Run Series, of which Vulcan now operates nine yearly like events across the country.

“This unique race provides us with a terrific opportunity to open our doors and showcase our quarry facility to Chicagoland runners and walkers,” said Jon Carmack, Area Operations Manager for Vulcan Materials Company. “The chance to see the inner workings of an operational quarry is rare and truly memorable. The event at the quarry allows runners and walkers to experience inclines and declines that are otherwise nearly impossible to find in the Chicago area.”

Proceeds from the race will benefit the Folds of Honor, an organization that provides scholarships to the families of fallen and disabled service men and women.
