Riverside Officer Makes 600th DUI Arrest

Officer Brian Greenenwald has also received a MADD Illinois Hero of the Highway Award for his DUI enforcement.

RIVERSIDE, IL — A Riverside Police officer recently made his 600th DUI arrest since starting at the department in 2007. Officer Brian Greenenwald has also received a MADD Illinois Hero of the Highway Award for his DUI enforcement.

Riverside Police Chief Thomas Weitzel said Greenenwald is a state certified Drug Recognition Expert.

"He's specially trained to recognize alcohol and drug impaired driving and has gone through hundreds of hours of training to do his job efficiently,” Weitzel said in a release.

“It's a matter of public safety. Over 10,000 people a year are killed by impaired drivers. It’s a real and growing problem and it’s why we address it as a department," Greenenwald said in a release. "I want to stop people from doing it to prevent future fatalities caused by impaired driving."

Weitzel called Greenenwald an outstanding officer who is dedicated to removing impaired drivers from the roads.

"His work is having an impact in Riverside and throughout the state," Weitzel said. "Brian is a leader in felony DUI’s, which typically has the offender getting numerous convictions for prior DUI arrests...As chief, I’m very proud to have an officer dedicated day in and day out to removing impaired drivers from our roadways.”
