LA GRANGE, IL – Lyons Township High School's South Campus faces a challenging year because of the construction of the cafeteria and the conversion of the old one into a music department, an official said Monday.

At a school board meeting, Superintendent Brian Waterman said South Campus would endure "a little short-term pain" for what the school hopes will be a "long-term gain."

During the project, the school will close hallways and run the cafeteria out of the gym, Waterman said. The gym will also be used for the band, choir and orchestra programs, which will bring acoustic challenges, he said.

"We know that's going to require a lot of patience," Waterman said.

The superintendent said he was pleased that three summer construction projects were completed by the beginning of the school year, as planned. Those projects were adding air conditioning to South Campus' E Wing, renovations of 16 restrooms, and upgrades to lighting in the pool and the fieldhouse, he said.
