Son Stabs Mom To Death, Seriously Injures Sister In Lyons: Police
Lyons man faces first degree murder and attempted first degree murder charges in brutal stabbings, police said.

LYONS, IL — A 38-year-old Lyons man is being held without bail after he stabbed his mother to death and seriously injured his sister, prosecutors said. Brian Hahn appeared Thursday before Cook County Judge John Mahoney on felony charges of first degree murder and attempted first degree murder.
Just after 4 a.m. March 6, Lyons police were called to a home in the 4000 block of Anna Avenue, where Hahn lived with his mother and two sisters. When police arrived, they found 65-year-old Anastasia Hahn bleeding on the floor of her bedroom. Standing over her was Brian Hahn, who was covered with blood, the prosecutor said. His sister Cynthia Hahn, 33, was in the bathroom, where police said she suffered stab wounds to her face.
The prosecutor said that Hahn’s sisters awoke to their mother screaming to call 911. The sisters ran to their mother's bedroom, where they saw their brother stabbing their mother with a butcher knife. Both sisters recognized the knife as belonging to the butcher block set in their kitchen.

After calling police, Cynthia returned to Anastasia’s bedroom when she tried to get the knife away from her brother, the prosecutor said. Hahn pushed his sister into the bathroom, where the prosecutor said Hahn stabbed Cynthia multiple times in the face and body. Police later found the knife on the bathroom floor. The prosecutor said Anastasia died at the scene.
Hahn was taken into custody. The South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force assisted Lyons police in investigating the case. Felony charges were approved by the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office.

The public defender told the judge that Hahn, who appeared in court wearing a blue jail uniform, suffers from mental illness and had been in and out of psychiatric hospitals. Hahn is currently employed as a food deliverer.
The prosecutor said that Hahn had two convictions for misdemeanor disorderly conduct and resisting arrest in 2014. He called the stabbings “exceptionally brutal and heinous.”
“I just can’t get past the horror,” Mahoney said, ordering Hahn to be held without bail.
Hahn is due back in court April 4 in Bridgeview.
Cynthia Hahn was treated for her wounds at Loyola Medical Center and was released the next day, said a Lyons police spokesman.
