Songs of Freedom at Brookfield Library October 5 with Mark Dvorak & Marianne Mohrhusen

BROOKFIELD IL - The Linda Sokol Francis Library will present “Songs of Freedom” on Monday, October 5 from 4:00 - 6:00 pm. The event takes place in the Butterfly Garden 3541 Park Avenue.
“As efforts to ban books escalate,” said Community Engagement Director Courtney McInerny, “defending the freedom to read is more important than ever. At the Brookfield Library, we celebrate the freedom to read.”

Local folk musicians Mark Dvorak and Marianne Mohrhusen will perform songs about freedom and resistance.

“We’d like to invite anyone who opposes censorship to join us. There will be discussions and events throughout the week. We especially hope folks will drop by to sing with us.” said Dvorak.

The Chicago Tribune has called Dvorak “masterful,” and the Fox Valley Folk Festival describes him as “a living archive of song and style.” Dvorak has won awards for journalism and children’s music and was honored in 2013 with the FARM Lantern Bearer Award from Folk Alliance International. In 2008 he received the Woodstock Folk Festival Lifetime Achievement Award and in 2012 Rich Warren, long time host of The Midnight Special radio program named Dvorak “Chicago’s official troubadour.”
