Spring Classes Offered for All Levels at La Grange Art League

If you’ve ever thought about taking an art class, a local studio is accepting registration now. La Grange is lucky to have the , 122 Calendar Ave., in the community. The gallery sells all types of art from local artists, but not just any artist can sell their wares at the La Grange Art League—a jury selects the work on display. The gallery always has a wide variety of paintings, photographs, jewelry, and other types of art in various price ranges; I have found many unique gifts at reasonable prices there.

In addition to the gallery store, the League offers art classes for all levels. If you want to come and learn some techniques and have fun, this is the place to do it. I had the pleasure of dropping in on a class last year taught by Gary Wick. The class was pastel techniques; all the students were painting beautiful irises, inspired by photographs supplied by Wick. Some students had taken multiple classes, while others were first time students. I have to admit, I was more than impressed with the results of the students' work. One of the techniques that Wick uses is to have the student paint the flower upside down. “This forces you to look at the painting with a different eye, you notice things you would not have noticed if you painted it right side up. Your brain is somewhat tricked by what it sees so you are forced to see shadings and details you might have otherwise missed," Wick told me during the class.
