Support Veteran Families via Food Drive at PROJECT DAY with American Legion Auxiliary Unit 1941!

Join us on Saturday, October 10 for our second PROJECT DAY to support veteran families via non-perishable food collections and projects!

On Saturday, October 10, 2015 American Legion Auxiliary Unit 1941 will host its second PROJECT DAY to support veterans and military families through collections and special projects.

The public is invited to join us between 10:00am and 1:30pm at the American Legion Hall in La Grange, Illinois to complete projects in support of veterans, active duty troops and military families. The day is organized in open house style: arrive when you can, leave when you need to or simply stop by to drop off non-perishable food or other donations.

Our projects will include:

  • Collecting non-perishable food for the 2015 Veterans Food Drive which puts together food baskets to provide Thanksgiving meals for up to 1,000 local veteran families in need. Most requested NON-PERISHABLE items include PROTEINS: canned beans, tuna, peanut butter, canned vegetables and fruits; SHELF-STABLE: jelly, stew, chili, soup, pasta sauce, cake mixes & frostings; DRY, READY-TO-MAKE Packages of: potatoes, breads, rice, stuffing.

  • Creating hand-made get well cards for hospitalized veterans at Hines VA Hospital.

  • Assembling 200 paracord survival bracelets for active duty troops to be distributed via Operation Gratitude care packages.

  • Collecting and organizing household coupons for military families to use at their local commissaries on military bases around the globe! Stay to clip or drop off coupons from YOUR Sunday papers!

  • Providing materials for youth to create Poppy Posters for our annual Poppy Poster Contest and our Americanism Essay Contest.

  • Collecting 2016 wall calendars for distribution at Hines VA.

  • Collecting UNUSED full & travel-sized containers of shampoo, body wash, toothpaste, deodorant, shaving cream; toothbrushes, combs, wet wipes, and facial tissue pocket packs for distribution to Hines VA & Lovell FHCC. NOTE: these items MUST be alcohol-free.

Donations to defer our costs are greatly appreciated, and ALL donations for Project Day and to American Legion Auxiliary Unit 1941 are tax-deductible. Receipts will be available on-site.
