LATTE’s Acting Training Intensive offers young adult creatives, ages 14 – 28, a chance to be mentored and meet with industry professionals, including: SoloTheater Chicago Scene Study with Ron Keaton, Stage Combat and Choreography artists Tristin Hall and Angela Rak, Pfluger Empathy Movement Method with Felicia Pfluger, Finding the Right Balance Creating your Career in the Arts with Kaitlin Fron, and Dance and Movement with Elise Wallin.

Saturday, September 12th, the Acting Intensive runs from 9:45 AM to 4:30 PM. Read on for a detailed look at the sessions and presenter bios!

Enjoy a day in a supportive, fun, laid-back environment as you learn about acting and careers in the performing arts from industry professionals. Bring a lunch, a water bottle, clothes to move in, and your enthusiasm. $50 for the full day.

• 10 AM SoloTheater Tips, Tricks and The Actor’s Toolbox. Scene Study – Ron Keaton
  Preparation is important key to making your dreams a reality. Ron will take you through his “Actor’s Toolbox,” which includes monologues, photos, resumes, and how to approach someone in the audition process to present yourself for success. Scene study as well! About Ron: Ron Keaton has been dazzling audiences for over 40 years. This Chicago Equity Actor has shown his versatility as a veteran actor, playwright, director, producer, and songster. He took up professional residence in Chicago in 1987, his first area bow being in 1776 at the Marriott Theatre nearly 30 years ago. He has appeared on many Chicago-area stages – Goodman Theatre, Marriott Theatre, Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, Drury Lane Theatre in Oakbrook Terrace, First Folio Theatre, Theater At The Center, Oak Park Festival Theatre, Apple Tree Theatre, Theatre At The Center, Candlelight Dinner Playhouse, Porchlight Music Theatre, Mercury Theatre, to name a few. Regional theatres include Indiana Repertory Theatre, the Alley Theatre in Houston, and the Coconut Grove Playhouse in Miami. Ronald is co-founder of the SOLOChicago Theater Company.
• Ronald has also been a stage manager, director, playwright, fundraiser, lyricist and composer, and singer at jazz and cabaret venues around Chicago. Keaton has a solo musical in the wings, WHISPERS FROM THE MOON, as well as an adaptation of the novel THE LAST HURRAH, both created in collaboration with Chicago composer/lyricist William Underwood, music director at TATC. And in the midst of all this, Ronald Keaton remains a proud member of and elected representative to the Central Regional Board of the Actors’ Equity Association, and a proud board member and active advocate of LATTE Theater. 11:15 Finding the Right Balance. • An honest discussion on how to assess and focus on different paths to a career related to music/theatre, and what it looks like to build the life you want while meeting your needs as a human, especially in today's economy. Explore choosing the right degree versus training independently and other paths to consider. Explore how to manage your career and have life balance for all you need to do and all you wish to become on stage!
• About Kaitlin: Kaitlin Fron is a voice and piano instructor specializing in voices of all ages and beginner-intermediate piano. Her vocal training is in classical and musical theatre styles. She holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Millikin University and a Master of Arts in music degree from The University of Iowa. She trained at the Red Mountain Theatre Company (formerly Summerfest) and the Midwest Young Artist Program. Previous voice instructors include Darla Brooks Mosteller, Dr. Katherine Eberle, Frances Daniels, Susan Sondrol-Jones, Dr. Benjamin Middaugh, and Kristi Tingle Higginbotham. Previous piano instructors include Dr. Grace Huang and Susan Cobb. As a performer, she has sung Amelia (Amelia Goes to the Ball), Emmie (Albert Herring), Flora (The Turn of the Screw), and Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), among others. After earning her MA, she spent a year as a character performer, portraying many beloved princesses, mermaids, and magical friends with The Enchanted Princesses. Kaitlin studied both adult and pediatric vocal pedagogy and also specializes in piano instruction for children with a variety of learning needs. Having learned with a minor visual challenge herself, she encourages everyone that they can learn to be great musicians so long as Students, Teachers, and Parents work together to create student-specific learning plans.
• 1:00 Stage Physicality and Scene Study with Felicia Pfluger Learn techniques for acting authentically under imaginary circumstances, emotional preparation, and scene creation. In this workshop, students learn to break down script material to understand implicit and explicit meaning with their scene partner. Exercises focus on getting out of the head and into the heart, moment-to-moment character development, blocking, transitions, motivation, and script analysis. About Felicia Pfluger – Founder, Producer and Director of LATTE, Playwright
• Felicia founded, developed, and shaped the LATTE Conservatory approach for 17 years. With a varied background in theater, dance, song, script and ghostwriting, teaching, teen and elder counseling, and education, Felicia enjoys empowering teens in LATTE to challenge themselves. She draws on her lifelong love of all things stage to inspire young-adult creatives, having acted, directed, and produced theater for over 30 years. With lighthearted fun, Felicia’s Pfluger Empathy Movement Method focuses on developing actresses and actors holistically while accomplishing professional-level theatricality. She utilizes techniques to help students thrive with her acting training program designed to build emotional wellness, physiological awareness, collaborative leadership, and empathy-building to facilitate healthy, sustainable growth on and off stage, alll while protecting the teen psyche and having a lot of fun in the process!
• Also, a Chicago playwright, Felicia had written dozens of stage adaptations that have been performed, including Anne of Green Gables, Little Women, 12 Angry Jurors, and The Philadelphia Story. Her original works include: The Porch Light, Common Ground, and Dearest Soldier - Love in War.
• • 2:15 Dance and Movement - Elise Wallin
  • Develop performance confidence in your creative expression with movement and dance that heightens your character’s theatricality, spatial and ensemble awareness, and just have fun! About Elise: Elise Wallin is a dancer, choreographer, and dance educator who recently graduated from Belmont University with a degree in Marketing and a minor in Dance. She has experience teaching, choreographing, and performing with dancers of all ages and is passionate about using the arts to build confidence, creativity, and community. Her background in dance education and youth programming has strengthened her commitment to creating engaging and inclusive artistic experiences. Elise loves fostering creativity and confidence through the arts and is excited to continue sharing her enthusiasm for performance and education with the theatre community.

  • 3:30 Stage Combat, Combat Choreography, Realistic Reactions - Tristan Hall and Angela Rak Gearing your fight to elicit comedy, action, or adventure, this session deals with consent with your stage partner, and Stage Combat falls, punches, and slaps. Learn choreography based on the emotion, dramatic and comedic level you wish to transport your audience with. About Tristin Tristin Hall is a born and raised Chicagoan and Advanced Actor Combatant with the SAFD. Currently,Tristin is working towards getting certified in Intimacy Direction and becoming a Certified Teacher with the SAFD. She fell in love with Stage Combat Sophmore year of school at Columbia College where she worked with Fight Master David Woolley, CT and Master Teacher (BASSC) John McFarland, CT David Yondorf, and CT and Intimacy Coordinator Rachel Flesher. Since then Tristin has traveled around the country interning and attending various SAFD workshops- last summer her adventures took her to London where she interned for the British Academy of Stage and Screen Combat National Workshop.
• • She is an actor and choreographer around Chicago, one of the founding members of Point Theatre Project, and creator of Gladiator Fight Night- an event where stage combatants compete as gladiators to see who will win the favor of the crowd and the Emperor for the evening. Recent choreography credits include: Human Resources (Theatre Evolve), Assisted Sam Hubbard with Yen (Raven Theater) and Too Heavy for Your Pocket (Timeline Theater), Some Like it Red and Munsterspiel (The Plagiarists), assisted Rachel Flesher with Sickle (Red Theater), and numerous projects at Columbia College. Acting Credits include Lisa in Falling (Interrobang Theater), Carrie in Carrie and Francine (Haven Theater), Jo-Jo the Bald Faced Liar in Dog Act (Columbia College), and Phineas in A Separate Peace (Point Theatre Project). About Angela Angela Rak is a Chicago based actor and teaching artist. She studied theatre and creative writing at North Park University, and now teaches through her stage combat teaching company Counterfeit Combat, as well as with Sarah Hall Theatre Company. Though Angela didn’t start acting until she was a teenager, she now loves working with young people to help them find what they love and grow in those areas!
