Through investigation it was learned the teenager had been riding his bike eastbound on Ridgewood Avenue and was crossing the intersection against the solid red light. The driver, police said, was driving northbound on First and had a green light for car traffic.
As the teenager crossed the intersection on the green light, he wasn't able to make it all the away across before he was struck by a car. Police said the driver of the car immediately stopped to help the teen, as did several other motorists who saw the accident.

The driver of the car was a 56-year-old woman from Markham, police said. She was treated at the scene for a panic attack.
Police also recovered dash-cam video from a private vehicle from one witness that caught the crash on video. Police said the video showed the teen crossing First Avenue when the light was green for both northbound and southbound traffic on First Avenue.
The video shown above is from Riverside Brookfield High School.
Riverside police are still investigating this crash and no tickets have been issued. Riverside Police Chief Thomas Weitzel encourages everyone using the intersection to obey the traffic lights and the pedestrian crossing signals at all times.
