Those Planes Over La Grange Area

La Grange Park explains why aircraft were over village Tuesday.

LA GRANGE PARK, IL — The La Grange Park village government received calls Tuesday night about the presence of planes over the town, the village said in a statement on Facebook. The strong winds were coming from the southeast, so Midway runway 13C was used for landings and takeoffs, causing more plans to fly over the La Grange area, the village said. This happens about 1 percent of the year, for a total of 3½ days, according to the statement.

The Chicago Department of Aviation has a flight tracker program accessible for free on its website. Residents are encouraged to use the flight tracker to understand what's happening at Midway.

The department maintains a toll-free noise hotline (1-800-914-8537 for suburban communities) for residents to express concern about particular aircraft noise.
