USAGAIN PRESENTS KOMAREK SCHOOL WITH RECYCLING AWARD

Leading Clothing Recycler Recognizes North Riverside School for Green Leadership

Komarek School, based in North Riverside, received top honors from local clothing recycler USAgain for green leadership with an award for “Excellence in Green Fundraising.”

During the 2015 Green-T Award Ceremony, held recently at the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago, USAgain recognized Komarek School for collecting 7,500 pounds of clothing and shoes during two successful clothing drives.

USAgain first partnered with Komarek School in October 2014 to host a “Bags for Bucks” fundraiser with the goal of increasing clothing recycling and providing the school an opportunity to raise extra funds. Komarek School excelled in raising awareness by promoting the issue of recycling in their school newsletter and to the community. The program benefitted from the hands-on involvement of students and administrators and gave way to a second session of the eco-friendly fundraiser.

“USAgain is proud to present Komarek School with an award for ‘Excellence in Green Fundraising’ and we applaud its commitment in demonstrating how textile recycling efforts can be successful and rewarding for everyone involved,” said USAgain CEO Mattias Wallander. “We love partnering with schools like Komarek and seeing the student’s widespread success. Not only are we reducing waste with green fundraising, we’re also providing a hands-on experience that extends beyond the classroom.”

Accepting the award on behalf of Komarek School, PTA President Lili Chiquito said, “We’re thankful for the opportunity to partner with USAgain to make our school a better place and to help our children develop important habits in recycling that they can carry forward into the future.”

The Green-T Awards reward individuals and organizations that support recycling and sustainability in Illinois. USAgain believes that recognizing the efforts of green leadership encourages environmental stewardship at all levels. In partnerships with cities, local businesses and non-profit organizations – including schools, churches, fire stations, humane societies and youth groups – USAgain hosts 1,100 recycling bins in the Chicagoland area that diverted seven million pounds of textiles from going into landfills in 2014 alone.
