Vandalism, Gift Card Scam: La Grange Cops

A resident found his car vandalized on a recent day, police said.

LA GRANGE, IL – La Grange police on Friday released their latest blotter. Here is information from the reports:

Vandalism

  • Someone spray-painted the windows of a car in the 100 block of Washington Avenue. The owner was able to remove the paint without any damage. The incident was reported about 11:30 a.m. May 25.

Fraud

  • A resident in the 800 block of South Stone Avenue told police about receiving a pop-up message on a computer prompting the resident to spend $7,500 on gift cards to reverse "fraudulent activity." The resident did not want any police assistance. The report was filed Wednesday. Unsolicited messages about payments in gift cards are nearly always scams.
  • A resident in the 700 block of South Spring Avenue told police that he realized he had been the victim of identity theft after receiving a cellphone bill for an account that he did not open. He suffered no financial loss. The report was made May 28.
