Village approved cook-out scheduled for the day of Pet Parade, May 30, to benefit The LeaderShop's Annual Disaster Relief Service Trip

A cook-out is scheduled for the day of Pet Parade, May 30, to benefit The LeaderShop’s Annual Disaster Relief Service Trip. The cook-out starts at 8:30am, and continues throughout the day at 712 W. Burlington in La Grange. The general public is invited.

Each year, a group of youth participants from The LeaderShop head to an area of the country that is in need. These disaster relief service trips have taken our youth volunteers to many different places including those hit by Hurricane Katrina and last year to Washington, Illinois, for tornado damage clean-up. This year’s high school summer service trip will be Saturday, June 6, to Sunday, June 14. Thirty-one high school students from The LeaderShop’s service schools: Lyons Township High School, Riverside-Brookfield High School, Argo Community High School and Nazareth, along with 8 adult staff members and volunteers will be heading to New Bern, North Carolina, to help families whose homes were damaged or destroyed by severe storms. New Bern lies approximately 100 miles east of Raleigh and has dealt with a number of devastating events over the past five years.

This year’s major sponsors of the Disaster Relief Service Trip are Lyons Township Mental Health Commission (http://www.ltmhc.org) and the World Heritage Foundation – Prechter Family Fund which is located in Michigan.
