Vintage Charm Shows Teachers Appreciation

Highlights of the night include author's reading, acoustic rock performance, 20 percent off merchandise for teachers with school IDs, and even a possible discount for non-educators.

, 729 W. Hillgrove Ave., is hosting an appreciation night tonight from 6 to 9 p.m., where teachers and educators can show their school ID and receive 20 percent off their purchase.

The event not only includes time for shopping, but also snacks, live music, an author's reading and a discount for non-educators.

William Torgerson, an assistant professor of writing studies at St. John’s University in New York City, will be reading from his book Love on the Big Screen, from 7 to 8 p.m. According to a Feb. 5 review by The Daily Journal, the book "follows the amorous adventures, no, the amorous efforts of Eric 'Zuke' Zaucha, an end-of-the-bench basketball player at a small college. Zuke’s view of relationships is largely shaped by the romantic movies he’s seen. The novel is set in the early 1990s, the prime time of Molly Ringwald and 'Sixteen Candles.'" Read a Q&A with Torgerson here, which compares his book to "Dead Poet's Society" and "Say Anything."

The fun doesn’t stop there, though; immediately following the reading, from 8 to 9 p.m., there will be an acoustic rock performance by teacher Frank Alleto with his brother, John, who perform in their band, Jank, a combination of their names.

Even if you’re not a teacher or educator, you can still receive 20 percent off your entire purchase during the event. How? Just purchase a copy of Love on the Big Screen between 6 and 9 p.m. at Vintage Charm tonight—it’s that easy. Come on out, have some fun and get some great deals, too.
