Woodridge Woman, 21, Killed By Train In Riverside

RIVERSIDE, IL — A pedestrian struck by a train in Riverside has been identified as a 21-year-old woman from Woodridge. Riverside Police received numerous calls of a pedestrian struck by a train at the Longcommon crossing at around 8:13 a.m. Thursday, police said in a news release.

Police said when they arrived on scene, they found the woman, who has been identified as Linnea Thorson, dead in the middle of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Metra train tracks. All inbound and outbound rail traffic was halted as a result of the incident

According to police, the investigation revealed that multiple eyewitnesses said Thorson walked from a yard onto the tracks, turned directly in front of the train and "posed" before she was struck. The train did attempt to stop and horns were blown, according to multiple witnesses.

Police said they recovered a set of car keys and cellphone at the scene, which led investigators to the victim's identity. Police have made notification to family members. Thorson's parked car was located 100 feet east of the Riverside Police Station.

According to a release, from evidence gathered, the victim parked her car in front of the police parking lot at 8:09 a.m., and the first call came in to the 911 center at 8:13 a.m.
