In Yin Yoga, floor postures are held for extended periods of time. Denser tissues are extended and compressed. Muscles relax more deeply, and joints release toward a fuller range of motion.
The benefits of the deep, sustained stretches of Yin Yoga are especially noticeable in the spine, low back, hips, and thighs. The result is greater ease of motion with less effort. Adhesions in the connective tissue are freed and the “gluing” due to aging, injury and lifestyle melts. Toxins are released, fresh nutrients are absorbed, and denser tissues respond to the deep stretches.
