3-Year Old Boy Shot and Killed at Waukegan Home

A 3-year-old boy was shot in the head and killed at his Waukegan home around 3 a.m. Police are still investigating the tragic death.

WAUKGEAN, IL - An autopsy for the three-year-old boy who was shot and killed at his home in Waukegan early Thursday morning is scheduled for Thursday afternoon, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Update, 11 a.m. Thursday:

Waukegan Police Commander Joseph Florip told media members Thursday morning that the family is “cooperating with law enforcement” and that the shooting appears to be an accident.

“We want to make sure we have all the facts before we release any information,” Florip said. "We are still treating this as an accident."

WAUKEGAN, IL - A 3-year-old boy was shot and killed in his Waukegan home early Thursday morning.

Police found the boy shot in the head in the 1100 block of Greenfield Avenue around 3 a.m. when they arrived. The child was taken to the Vista East Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The Waukegan Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division are investigating the incident Thursday morning.

The shooting is believed to be an accident.
