FISHING IS JUST AROUND A COUPLE OF CORNERS
I want to share a terrific fishing spot.
Just an 80-minute drive from the North Shore are the three lakes that make up the Lauderdale Lakes chain. To locate this area in your mind it is just a dozen or so miles north of Lake Geneva along U.S. 12/67. There are no boat rentals on Lauderdale but there are three public ramps for launching boats.
Lauderdale Lakes' homeowners donate money each year to have the lakes stocked. In recent years the stocking has included smallmouth bass, walleye and northern pike. The lakes abound with largemouth bass. Bluegill and perch respond to nighcrawlers while crappie love minnows. Bait can be purchased at the nearby CITCO on County Road A just west of 12/67.
Weekdays are the best time to fish Lauderdale Lakes. Boat traffic gets heavy on weekends, but there is a weekend speed limit before 9 a.m. so fishing before that time is usually rewarding. I also like to fish evenings when the boating is less, the lakes are calmer and the reflection of the setting sun on the water is lovely.
Before I forget, there is terrific ice fishing here in the winter.
