Ambitious Police Officer Creatively Reinvents Himself To Aid Son While Bringing Joy To Children & Their Families
28 year old Lake Forest Police Officer Ben Grum is a true hero.
Surely, he's a hero to his young son Ryland, a happy 2 year old bundle of boy-energy, who's smiling 99.9% of the time. While Ryland see's Ben simply as "Daddy," there will come a time when he recognizes his Daddy for the great example he sets, not only to him but to scores of other parents and their children in Lake County.
Currently based in Libertyville with wife Vanessa and son Ryland, the Grums are like just about any other family in the area, except for one caveat: Their toddler Ryland has already had two open heart surgeries at Lurie Children's Hospital (formerly Children's Memorial Hospital), due to Ryland's being born with Tricuspid Atresia, a form of congenital heart disease, whereby there is a complete absence of the Tricuspid valve. Inevitably, Ben and Vanessa's son Ryland will need a third open heart surgery, a major procedure they'll ultimately need to brace for, while hoping and praying for the best, like any set of parent's would do.
In the meantime, Ben, who works full-time as one of Lake Forest's Finest (Police Officer's), diligently goes about his business, without complaint, without fanfare, while providing a loving environment, along with his lovely wife, Vanessa, who works for the Deerfield School District where she teaches Spanish to 1st through 5th graders at Wilmont Elementary.
At first glance, the Grums appear to be the epitome of the American family: a great looking trio of happiness, which in truth and in spite of the challenges they've faced, they are. And while we all have our challenges, it's an exceptional family that can face the prospect of a third open-heart surgery eventually.
How does a 28 year old couple cope with the periodic challenges and sometimes overwhelming last minute trips from Libertyville to downtown to the Robert Lurie Children's Hospital late at night? How does a young couple ensure their son's comfort and happiness during a long winter, while taking their child out of the hospital and running pick line's at home to ensure their son is home for the holidays?
Ben would tell you that he and Vanessa do whatever it takes and to their credit, they are two exemplary young parent's who are wise beyond their years. After what Ben and Vanessa have endured, the day to day grind sometimes associated with policing a city must pale in comparison to what the Grum's have gone through.
In addition to their positive attitudes, the Grum's are overachiever's who will do whatever it takes to reinvent themselves creatively, hence: their family business, "Hop Till You Drop!" Hop Till You Drop is a family owned and operated company.
According to Ben and Vanessa: "Hop Till You Drop is a moonwalk company located out of Libertyville and Lake Forest, Illinois. We are a Moonwalk rental company that prides itself in low prices and clean, safe moonwalks. We have several moonwalks to choose from that will keep kids of all ages jumping all day and all night. We have been in business now for 5 years serving all of Lake County and surrounding suburbs."
Ben adds, "Delivery is free as long as you live within 20 miles of the 60048 zip code!"
The Grum's are very excited to serve all of Lake County and the North Shore and look forward to making customer's birthdays, graduations, company picnics, or holidays a "hopping good time."
When Ben isn't in uniform, he's collaborating with Vanessa on behalf of their "Hop Till You Drop" client's and when he's not occupied delivering their wonderful summertime moonwalks, he's providing private house-watching services for resident's in the entire region. For only $25 per visit, Ben's solo company, Silver Star Home Services, provides an incredibly affordable value that's reliable and professional. Silver Star provides invaluable peace of mind to homeowner's traveling for business, vacation's or short getaway's.
Through it all, you'll rarely catch Ben without a wide grin on his face and a calm demeanor. While this hardworking "Workhorse" counts his blessings each and every day, he and wife Vanessa savor the warm summer days, while son Ryland also joins in on the moonwalk fun. The Grum's are grateful that their son is currently able to play freely in the moonwalk's like any other young toddler. Ryland's status is good for the time being and we're all keeping our finger's crossed moving forward.
In the meantime, I urge all reader's to consider hiring "Hop Till You Drop" for any of your above aforementioned party needs, knowing that you'll be paying it forward, while welcoming a wonderful, fun-filled game-changer to your event-the kids (and adults) will have a blast-make it your best celebration party of the summer!
