LAKE FOREST, IL — A resident was killed in a house fire shortly after midnight on Sunday, according to the Lake Forest Fire Department.
The Fire Department responded to a fire at a two-story home in the 1200 block of Griffith Road. When firefighters arrived at the home, they saw flames coming from the rear first-story window.
Two people were inside the home when the fire started. One resident escaped the home by jumping from a second-story window. First responders found the resident outside and transported them to Lake Forest Hospital in stable condition.
While firefighters conducted search and suppression operations, they located a second resident who had died in the fire.
"The Lake Forest Fire Department extends its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased," department officials said in a statement.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire by running a hose line into the rear of the home.
LFFD activated a mutual aid box alarm for additional fire investigation resources. The Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal is assisting with the investigation.
The cause and origin of the fire are still under investigation, authorities said.
